The South West Youth Games Trust have struck a partnership with Clip n Climb to deliver a unique schools climbing competition next year.
Taking place across the three Clip n Climb sites in Exeter, Plymouth and Cornwall on Friday 18 January, the events will see school teams of years 5 and 6 pupils tackle identical climbs and their performances will be combined to produce overall results.
Any pupils who enter the event as part of their school team will also be able to take advantage of a £10 discounted fee for any weekend climbing in the lead up to event at each of the three participating centres.
Clip n Climb are widely regarded as one of global leaders in indoor climbing and Trust CEO Chris Broadbent is excited at the link up. "This is a really unique partnership and will give schools a great opportunity to try something a bit different.
"Not every young person is interested in more traditional sports like football, rugby and cricket and we urge schools to bring pupils who might benefit most from this opportunity and spark their interest in an alternate form of physical activity.
"By working across three sites this also enables us to limit the transport issues that can sometimes prohibit schools. The climbing event is one of several innovations we are introducing into our event programme this year and is one we are very excited about."
