An innovative new street league will be launched across Devon and Cornwall aimed at the growing urban sport scene. street Series South West will feature skateboarding, scootering and freestyle BMX events at facilities across the region next year. The series will begin at Mount Hawke Skatepark near Truro on 4 January and include events in Saltash’s Junkyard Skatepark, Prime Skatepark in Plymouth and the Lodge Indoor Skatepark in Newton Abbot for young people aged 5 to 21. Hundreds of Devon and Cornwall’s most enthusiastic and talented BMX riders, skateboarders and scooterers aged 8-16 are getting set to compete for medals at the South Rotary West Youth Games street sports finals at Mount Hawke Skatepark near Truro on Friday. The largest Olympic-style youth sports event in the region is coming back to Cornwall for the second successive year in 2018. The South West Rotary Youth Games will return to Mount Hawke Skatepark just outside Truro next Easter to host the street sports event.   Last year’s launch event was a big success with over 150 young people from 8 areas competing in BMX, skateboarding and scootering competitions. It was the first time a street sports style event had been hosted by the event in its 19 year history.   It was also the first time Cornwall has hosted a South West Rotary Youth Games event since it expanded from the Devon Youth Games in 2015....

...YOUNGSTERS SHINE AT YOUTH GAMES FINAL Around 1000 youngsters from right across Devon and Cornwall competed in the South West Youth Games in Okehampton on Sunday at the region’s biggest community youth sports event. Watched by Olympian Jemma Simpson, hundreds of youngsters representing nine Devon districts and a combined Cornwall team took part in the annual event, first launched in 1999 and newly expanded from Devon to include Cornwall this year. The West Devon team took the honours as the overall winners across a total of 19 sports, four events having already taken place at the Mount Hawke street Games event in Truro on 31 May. ...Cornwall retained their street sports title after an epic event at Mount Hawke Skatepark near Truro on Friday. The home team were in great form on four wheels or two as youngsters from right across the region enjoyed the experience of competing at one of the UK's best skate parks and host of the Team GB Olympic Trials for Tokyo 2020. Cornwall's Mount Hawke team took gold in both the scooter and skateboard team classes as their fellow Cornish contingent from Junkyard took the BMX team gold.
