south west water have become official supporters of the region’s largest youth community sports event. Young Plymouth rowers became regional champions as they won the south west Rotary Youth Games Indoor Rowing Finals at Marjons University on Wednesday 18 April, but there was also plenty of medal success for Cornish and south Hams participants. The combined team of Plymouth High School for Girls and Devonport High School for Boys took the overall title after a day of high intensity, high energy rowing from schools across Devon and Cornwall and participants aged 11-18. Sports charity the south west Youth Games Trust has appointed its first ever Chief Executive. Chris Broadbent, who has previously worked for Team GB and for the London Olympics has joined the Trust with an aim to increase activity levels among young people across Devon and Cornwall.   The charity was created in 2015 to save the Devon Youth Games and has since grown its main event into the south west Rotary Youth Games, expanding into Cornwall as well as every Devon district.   It is now the region’s biggest youth multi-sport community event with around 10,000 taking part in the journey towards its finals events.   43 year old Broadbent work...

Only last July, we ordered crates and crates of bottled water for the 2018 south west Youth Games finals and thought very little of it. writes CEO Chris Broadbent. Hundreds of single-use plastic for one day and then discarded. Six months on and it is something we - as an organisation - will never contemplate again. We surveyed our participants after last year's events and found that the environment is an issue they cared deeply about.
