Over 150 young people from across the region took part in the South West Rotary Youth Games netball Finals at Paignton Community and Sports Academy on Sunday. A 25% increase on entries and the attendance of a Superleague Academy player are the main features of this weekend’s netball Finals. Around 150 young people are set to contest the netball competitions of the South West Rotary Youth Games this Sunday at Paignton Community and Sport Academy, which will be attended by Team Bath Academy Pleyer Rachel Fee. Fifteen teams will take to the court for netball under 13 girls and high 5 netball mixed, up on the 11 teams that contested netball competitions at the 2017 Games. YOUNGSTERS SHINE AT YOUTH GAMES FINAL Around 1000 youngsters from right across Devon and Cornwall competed in the South West Youth Games in Okehampton on Sunday at the region’s biggest community youth sports event. Watched by Olympian Jemma Simpson, hundreds of youngsters representing nine Devon districts and a combined Cornwall team took part in the annual event, first launched in 1999 and newly expanded from Devon to include Cornwall this year. Young Plymouth rowers became regional champions as they won the South West Rotary Youth Games Indoor Rowing Finals at Marjons University on Wednesday 18 April, but there was also plenty of medal success for Cornish and South Hams participants. The combined team of Plymouth high School for Girls and Devonport high School for Boys took the overall title after a day of high intensity, high energy rowing from schools across Devon and Cornwall and participants aged 11-18. South West Rotary Youth Games have added two further events to their expanded programme of events for 2018.The region’s largest annual community youth sport event will now host an indoor rowing event in April (entry form below) and a netball event in June, expanding the sport’s charity’s reach from two region-wide events in 2017 to five this year.The charity has added indoor rowing to its growing number of sports and will host the first ever South West Rotary Youth Games Indoor Rowing Finals at Plymouth Marjon University on 18 April.Furthermore, the Games will host netball and high 5 netball events at Paignton Community and Sports Academy on 10 June.Alongs...

It has been a week since Sport England’s Active Lives Children and Young People report was published and the findings were shocking, but not surprising writes CEO Chris Broadbent.
