NORTH devon AND TORRIDGE YOUNGSTERS GET SPORTING CHANCE North devon and Torridge youngsters are being given the opportunity to take part in an Olympic style sports event featuring teams from across the region this summer. Formerly known as the devon Youth Games, the newly-expanded South West Youth Games has extended an invitation across the Tamar to their Cornish cousins to take part in the region’s biggest annual multi-sport youth event. Around 2,000 youngsters are expected to take part in the 2017 South West Youth Games finals at Okehampton on Sunday 9 July with up to ten times as many taking part in local trials and training events in the lead up. ...

...YOUNGSTERS SHINE AT YOUTH GAMES FINAL Around 1000 youngsters from right across devon and Cornwall competed in the South West Youth Games in Okehampton on Sunday at the region’s biggest community youth sports event. Watched by Olympian Jemma Simpson, hundreds of youngsters representing nine devon districts and a combined Cornwall team took part in the annual event, first launched in 1999 and newly expanded from devon to include Cornwall this year. The West devon team took the honours as the overall winners across a total of 19 sports, four events having already taken place at the Mount Hawke Street Games event in Truro on 31 May.
