The largest Olympic-style youth sports event in the region has awarded its 20th anniversary finals to Teignbridge district for 2018.   dawlish is set to host the South West Rotary Youth Games finals on Saturday 7 July.   The annual multi-sport event was launched as the Devon Youth Games in 1999 and has since expanded across the South West to include teams from Cornwall and every Devon District competing in 20 sports.   Around 10,000 young people aged 8-18, both able-bodied and disabled take part in the journey towards the Games each year.   South West Youth Games Trust Chief Executive Chris Broadbent said: “dawlish Leisure Centre is a f...
 

DEVON RFU PARTNERS GAMES

Devon RFU and the South West Rotary Youth have agreed a partnership that will see the organisations working together for 2018. The Games are the largest youth community sports event in the region and are celebrating their 20th edition this year. The annual multi-sport event was launched as the Devon Youth Games in 1999 and has since expanded across the South West to include teams from Cornwall and every Devon district competing in 20 sports and activities.  Around 10,000 young people aged 8-18, both able-bodied and disabled take part in the journey towards the Games each year. CORNWALL LEAD GAMES

Cornwall are leading the way in the chase for this year's South West Rotary Youth Games as they seek their first ever overall triumph in the region's largest community youth sports event. Since April's Street Sports Finals and Indoor Rowing Finals which took place at Mount Hawke Skatepark and Marjons, Plymouth respectively, Cornwall are leading the way in the overall standings with a near maximum score of 43 as the Games moves into Summer. The Cornwall team enjoyed a clean sweep in the Street Sports on 6 April taking gold in the Skateboarding, Freestyle BMX and Scootering competitions. BASKETBALL ADDED TO GAMES

Basketball has been added to the competitions at this year's South West Rotary Youth Games Finals at dawlish on 7 July. A 4 v 4 mixed gender tournament for primary aged youngsters will take place at Red Rock Youth Centre overlooking dawlish Leisure Centre. The event will not be an area-based competition, instead it will be open to on-line entries only. YOUTH GAMES RETURNS TO TRURO

The largest Olympic-style youth sports event in the region is coming back to Cornwall for the second successive year in 2018. The South West Rotary Youth Games will return to Mount Hawke Skatepark just outside Truro next Easter to host the Street Sports event.   Last year’s launch event was a big success with over 150 young people from 8 areas competing in BMX, skateboarding and scootering competitions. It was the first time a Street Sports style event had been hosted by the event in its 19 year history.   It was also the first time Cornwall has hosted a South West Rotary Youth Games event since it expanded from the Devon Youth Games in 2015....
 

TWO NEW EVENTS FOR BIGGEST EVER GAMES

South West Rotary Youth Games have added two further events to their expanded programme of events for 2018.The region’s largest annual community youth sport event will now host an indoor rowing event in April (entry form below) and a netball event in June, expanding the sport’s charity’s reach from two region-wide events in 2017 to five this year.The charity has added indoor rowing to its growing number of sports and will host the first ever South West Rotary Youth Games Indoor Rowing Finals at Plymouth Marjon University on 18 April.Furthermore, the Games will host Netball and High 5 Netball events at Paignton Community and Sports Academy on 10 June.Alongs...
