Cornwall to host the SWYG Multi-Wheeled Sports Event

  Scooter, Skateboard and bmx enthusiasts are being invited to take part in the South West Youth Games 2017 for the first time ever in the event’s history. Teams and individuals from all over Devon and Cornwall are set to revel in unique day of wheel-based action at the South West Youth Games Extreme Sports Jam at Mount Hawke Indoor Skatepark in Truro on 31st May. 2017 marks the first ever year where teams from Cornwall will join Devon teams in the newly expanded South West Youth Games (formerly Devon Youth Games). An innovative new street league will be launched across Devon and Cornwall aimed at the growing urban sport scene. Street Series South West will feature skateboarding, scootering and freestyle bmx events at facilities across the region next year. The series will begin at Mount Hawke Skatepark near Truro on 4 January and include events in Saltash’s Junkyard Skatepark, Prime Skatepark in Plymouth and the Lodge Indoor Skatepark in Newton Abbot for young people aged 5 to 21. The Street Series SW rolled into Newton Abbot on Sunday with 42 participants showing some incredible skills in bmx, scootering and skateboarding. Competitors streamed in from Truro, Braunton, Southampton and Plymouth for the second round of the inaugural series which launched at Mount Hawke on 4 January.  At the Lodge Indoor Skatepark, there were some standout displays from Dead Sailor who took individual (Fraizer Devine) and team success in the bmx in the 5-15 class whilst Brandon Docking tightened his grip on the 16-21 class with a victory to follow up his solid display in round 1. The 2019 Street Series SW concluded on Sunday with another action-packed day at Mount Hawke. Over 50 riders got gnarly in the bowl, street and boxes in bmx, scootering and skateboarding. On the bikes, Dead Sailor and Roots were well represented with Fraizer Devine (5-15yr) and Aaron Wilson securing an individual double success for Dead Sailor. In the team standings, Roots (5-15yr) and Cornwall Boys (16-21yr) topped the box. Also on two wheels, there was a really close competition in the 5-15yr scootering bracket with Maxwell Jackson edging Jonah Jackson and Remy Korman in the top three.  Cornwall Boys were the leading team. The largest Olympic-style youth sports event in the region is coming back to Cornwall for the second successive year in 2018. The South West Rotary Youth Games will return to Mount Hawke Skatepark just outside Truro next Easter to host the Street Sports event.   Last year’s launch event was a big success with over 150 young people from 8 areas competing in bmx, skateboarding and scootering competitions. It was the first time a Street Sports style event had been hosted by the event in its 19 year history.   It was also the first time Cornwall has hosted a South West Rotary Youth Games event since it expanded from the Devon Youth Games in 2015....

Hundreds of Devon and Cornwall’s most enthusiastic and talented bmx riders, skateboarders and scooterers aged 8-16 are getting set to compete for medals at the South Rotary West Youth Games Street Sports finals at Mount Hawke Skatepark near Truro on Friday.
